But the cost won’t break the bank: The Server update is just $20, and can be downloaded from the Mac App Store. The software contains all the features one might expect from OS X’s server software, including the Xsan Admin, caching, file sharing, profile manager, a VPN, wiki, Xcode, and more.
New to this edition of OS X Server is improved file sharing with SMB2; an improved profile manager for setting up user accounts, configuring system settings, distributing ebooks and apps, and more; a new caching server to speed up download and delivery of software and ebooks; a new version of Xcode Server for development teams; centralized Time Machine backups; a new Wiki Server, optimized for both Macs and the iPad; improvements to the Calendar, Contacts, and Mail servers; and Xsan 3. You can read more about these features on Apple’s website.
